Making Dreams Real In The Wonderful World of Rotary
"……And they lived happily ever after…" Isn't that how every Disney movie ends? Certainly, that is every Rotarian's wish for the beneficiaries after every fabric of service is finally woven into place.
Revolving around the 2008-2009 RI theme, "Make Dreams Real", the Rotary Club of Makati Dasmariñas commemorated its 14th Induction Ceremonies with its message to the world that "Dreams Come True In The Wonderful World of Rotary".
The Disney-inspired event was a showcase of homegrown talents who arrived in their interesting costumes. Traipsing through the ballroom of the Manila Polo Club unto the backdrop of an enchanting castle were Beauty (Belle) and Beast (Prince Adam), Captain Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann, Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell, Shrek and Princess Fiona, Zorro and lady love Elena, Princess Jasmine, Mulan, Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie the Cowgirl, Jafar, Esmeralda, Rapunzel, Prince Caspian and Princess Susan, Linguini (chef of Ratatouille), Meg (of Hercules), Mulan, Cruella De Ville, Cleopatra, fairy godmothers, and princes and princess, with of course Prince Charming (a.ka. President Abet Nolido), and Cinderella (Spouse Ana).

Gamely responding to the invitation to come in costume were Centennial President Freddie Borromeo and Spouse Jojo (RC Makati West), in Aladin and Jasmine attire, respectively; President Deo "Aladin" BC (RC Makati Nielsen), President Sweetie "Rosalinda" Gardiner (RC Muntinlupa Filinvest), Met "Cumarat" Saludo (RC Makati Urdaneta), Chacha "Tinkerbell" Camacho (RC Makati San Lorenzo), and Bing "Mickey Mouse " Icamina (RC Makati Mckinley).
Innovative and entertaining programs is RCMD's cup of tea, and this event was no different. The invocation was an interpretation of N'Sync's acapella version of "When You Wish Upon A Star" delivered by the Interactors from the Colegio San Agustin. After the induction of the new officers and directors, the club's Past Presidents -- IPP Rey Madrid, CP Becky Singson, PPs Inky Reyes, Joji Tan, Juor Buted, Louie Panganiban and Perry Noble rendered a medley of inspiring, comforting and reassuring Disney songs for President Abet. The latter in turn capped his heartwarming inaugural address by gyrating with the club's best dancers to the hip hop beat of High School Musical's "We're All In This Together". Instead of the usual charging speech for the Baby Rotarians, PP Rhoda Salas ushered in membership Director Ed Ledesma and Spouse Rona, CP Becky Singson, PE Lou Baens, and Rtn. Juno Henares who rendered a soul-stirring, overpowering and awesome rendition of "A Whole New World". The segment featured interesting photos and videos of the significant works of Rotary International.
After District Governor Ed Limon had delivered his well-applauded message, the RCMDers gathered for one more number, singing their original club song, "Touch Another Soul".
The guests went home, nodding in amazement. The cool dudes and beautiful babes of the club certainly know how to take fun seriously -- and they did it in their usual flamboyant, entertaining, and inimitably creative style, showcasing that brand of magic that is definitely RCMD. |
