D3830 Rotaract Makes Another Step Closer To Making Dreams Real
November 3, 2008, Parañaque City
By District Rotaract Representative Cathy Gonzales

In celebration of Children’s Month, eight Rotaract clubs of District 3830, once again, joined forces to hold their Second Feeding Program for this Rotary Year at the BF Health Center, Barangay BF, Parañaque City, last October 26, 2008.

The feeding program is a project initiative of the Rotaract Club of Parañaque Metro – KAPWA, which was adopted by the D3830 last year under Immediate past District Rotaract Representative (IPDRR) Joannie Sitoy.   This year, the Rotaract District Committee led by District Rotaract Representative (DRR) Cathy Gonzales, under the able guidance District Rotaract Chair (DRC) Lilibeth De La Cruz, deemed it appropriate to continue the quarterly program, in line with Rotary International’s thrust of “Make Dreams Real” for the world’s children.  The program does more than just feed its 40 beneficiaries. It also educates the mothers of these undernourished children in the preparation of nutritious but affordable food through cooking lectures and demonstrations.

The day’s activity started with the nursing students from the Rotaract Club of Las Piñas College (RC Las Piñas East) taking the children’s vital signs, such as height, and weight.  At the opening program, District Coordinating Chair for Youth Service, “Mamu” Vhell Arias, DRC “Baby Nanay” Lilibeth and DRR Cathy addressed the beneficiaries and their mothers.  DRR Cathy told them that Rotaract is doing this for the children because they are important, because they will be the world’s leaders of tomorrow.

Everyone, specially the children, were entertained by the Promil mascot, as he danced and played around.  The District Rotaract Team was fortunate to get Wyeth Philippines as major sponsor of the event who gave free wet-sampling of Promil Preschool milk drinks to impress upon these children the importance of drinking milk.

The Rotaract Clubs of KAPWA (RC Parañaque Metro) and Paragon (RC Parañaque East) teamed up to facilitate the mothers’ lecture session on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Afterwards, then the Rotaract Clubs of SIBAMP (RC Palanyag Parañaque) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (RC Muntinlupa North) staged a cooking demonstration. Real Good President Brenda Hernandez (RC Parañaque Metro) also gave a short talk on the nutritional values of malunggay.

While their mothers were learning, the children had fun with games facilitated by the Rotaract Club of Tramo Dos (RC Palanyag Parañaque) and listen to stories shared by the Rotaract Club of Makati (RC Makati).  Both clubs gave away lots of prizes to the kids who participated and answered questions during their sessions. The Rotaract Club of YMNP (RC Parañaque Metro) was also present to assist.

Towards the end of the program, the beneficiaries happily received giveaways courtesy of Wyeth. Each got a paper bag containing a can of Promil Preschool (900 gms), Clusivol Syrup (120 ml), Robitussin Capsules (200 mg), a bag and a notepad.  Other giveaways included 100 mg Ascorbic Acid syrup (2 for each child) courtesy of RC Parañaque East and Ovaltine from RC Parañaque Metro.

There is no doubt that the Second District Rotaract Feeding Program brought smiles to the faces of the children and their mothers.  But surely, for the 30 Rotaractors, 6 Interactors, 9 Rotarians and the representatives from Wyeth, it’s more than facial expressions.  Their hearts were smiling, too, knowing that they just made another step closer to making dreams real for the children.
