APRRC 2008: Learn, Share and Celebrate
A glimpse of the 5th Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference

Taking cue from this year’s theme, 380 Rotaractors, together with a number of Rotarians learned, shared, and celebrated with friends from 16 countries at the 5th Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference (APRRC) hosted by RI District 3400 on Nov. 19-23, 2008 at the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel in the beautiful island of Bali, Indonesia.

The 5-day event featured plenary and panel sessions covering topics such as Creating the Leaders of Tomorrow, Think and Do It and Celebrate 40 Years of Rotaract, which featured prominent Indonesian business leaders, innovative educators, and seasoned Rotarians.  Several workshops facilitated by Rotarians and Rotaractors were held where participants may attend depending on their topics of interest.

The workshop on Enhancing Rotary-Rotaract Relations was facilitated by our very own Immediate Past District Rotaract Representative (IPDRR) Joannie Sitoy (RC Parañaque Metro RAC -YMNP).  She spoke on her 2-year experience as DRR and shared how good relationships with Rotarians play important roles towards the success of Rotaract organizations.

The D3830 delegates to the conference

DG Boyet Limon surprised the 10-member D3830 delegation when he arrived with partner, CP Sonie Zamora, on Nov. 21.  Like his predecessors, DG Boyet has glaringly shown that he has a soft spot on his heart for the youth.  He personally sponsored IPDRR Joannie to attend the APRRC, while District 3830 sponsored DRR Cathy Gonzales’ participation to lead the Philippine delegation of other DRRs from around the country.

Other members of the D3830 team were President Mennen Gonzales (RAC Makati), Secretary Rionalyn Marie Radam (RAC Makati), Director Angelo Belo (RAC Makati), President Angel Tejuco (RAC Pque. East Paragon), Rotaractor Aira Enriquez (RAC RCP SouthWest IHMC) and Rotaractor Joanna Katrina Magalong (RAC Makati Edsa).  District Rotaract Chair Lilibeth De La Cruz (RC Parañaque Metro) and Rtn. Fidelino Benzon (RC Parañaque East) ably served as the young delegates’ guides and inspirations.

Aside from being active in the learning sessions, the D3830 Rotaractors, so with the rest of the Philippine delegates, gamely participated in the sharing and celebrating portions of the conference, such as the Rotaract Festival, Cultural Night, sisterhood agreement signings, photo opportunities and lots and lots of dancing.  Thus, it did not come as a surprise when the Philippines bagged 3 major awards and recognitions: Most Participative Country, Best Cultural Presentation and Most Active Rotarian in the person of DRC Lilibeth De la Cruz, who caught the attention of the organizers because of her religious attendance of the sessions and serving as an exemplary inspiration to both Rotaractors and her fellow Rotarians.

The wonderful APRRC Bali experience has, indeed, given the participating Rotaractors renewed inspiration and resolve to make a world of difference as they go back to their respective home countries and clubs. They parted ways, but promised to keep in touch and, with high hopes, see each other again at the next APRRC in Singapore where they may share what they have accomplished towards making dreams real - truly living up to the true meaning of Rotaract: Rotary in Action.
