The 3rd Rotaract District Feeding Program & Post-Christmas Fellowship

As the timeless Filipino Christmas tune tells us, “At magbuhat ngayon, kahit hindi Pasko ay magbigayan!,” the Rotaractors of District 3830 continued the spirit of giving with the holding of the Third Rotaract District Feeding Program for Rotary Year 2008-2009 last January 11, 2009 at the BF Health Center in Parañaque for the benefit of 40 under-privileged children and their mothers.

Joining host Rotaract Clubs KAPWA and YMNP (RC Parañaque Metro), Paragon (RC Parañaque East), SIBAMP (RC Palanyag Parañaque) and Makati, for the first time, were RACs Muntinlupa Central (RC Muntinlupa Central), Southville Foreign University (RC Makati Salcedo) and TUP-Taguig (RC Rizal West). The Rotaract Club of San Pedro East (D3820), sister club of lead host RAC KAPWA, was also present and represented by Pres. Asel Punzalan. A total of 37 Rotaractors were present, so far, the highest turnout in the quarterly RAC district feeding programs.

Other than District Rotaract Chair “Baby Nanay” Lilibeth De La Cruz, who is always hands-on in helping the Rotaractors on their activities, District Coordinating Chair “Mamu” Vhell Arias was also present to give her all-out support to the project. Ten Rotarians from RC Parañaque Metro and RC Las Piñas East also graced the event.

For the second time, Wyeth Philippines sponsored the program.  They sent the Promil Mascot who, once again, danced and played with the children and, like the last time, provided Promil PreSchool milk for the kids and kids-at-heart (read: Rotaractors).

Because January is Cancer Awareness Month, RAC KAPWA’s lectures and RAC Paragon’s activities were focused on the “Big C” during the mothers’ learning sessions. The regularly featured cooking demonstration of affordable, but highly nutritious food by RAC SIBAMP, also took place.  While their mothers are learning, the children were being entertained in another room with stories, games and a movie showing by their big sisters and brothers from RAC Muntinlupa Central, TUP-Taguig, SFU, Makati, and YMNP.

The beneficiaries of the 3rd Rotaract District Feeding Program

Towards the end of the program, giveaways were distributed to the beneficiaries consisting of  Wyeth paper bags with Promil Preschool for the parents and Disney backpacks for the kids, including sample packs of Stresstabs multi-vitamins.  Loot bags containing assorted goodies were also given out through the efforts of DRC Lilibeth.

Unlike the previous feeding programs, activities did not end after the beneficiaries left.  The Rotaractors had lunch together and enjoyed a post-Christmas fellowship.  Pres. Mennen Gonzales of RAC Makati facilitated “Amihan, Habagat,” a getting-to-know-you game that started the ball rolling.  The Rotaractors played Human Multiple Choice testing their knowledge on Rotary and Rotaract.  The last game was the traditional Stop Dance, but with a twist.  Participants were asked to dance when there’s no music and stop when it’s playing.

The final part of the fellowship was a raffle where all present Rotaractors won gift prizes generously shared by Baby Nanay Lilibeth, Mamu Vhell, DRR Cathy and the beautiful ladies of RC P Parañaque Metro.  Of course, there’s the seemingly endless picture taking to cap the day’s activities.

The smiles and laughter on everyone's faces can only reflect their genuine feelings of fulfillment for another successful service project and a job well done.  It's a testament of what Rotaract is all about: making dreams real for others, with friends.  What a way to start 2009!
