Anika was the judges’ top choice from a field of seven finalists who were selected after two qualifying rounds, at the club and cluster levels, conducted in clusters 2, 3, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 14. Each of the finalists delivered a 10-minute speech on the theme “Saving Planet Earth.”
Garnering the 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively, were Anna Karennina S. Villafranca of Bloomfield Academy sponsored by RC Las Piñas under Pres. Boy Molina, and Nicole O. Francisco of International School Manila sponsored by RC Makati Dasmariñas under Pres. Abet Nolido.
This year’s district contest is under the chairmanship of PP German Gapac with PP Lory Ata as contest director. It was organized by RC Makati Northwest under Pres. Lily Kho and co-hosted by RC Makati Poblacion under Pres. Roman Leus.
The panel of judges was composed by Eileen P. Leus of Zuellig Foundation, Jazz Encarnacion of People & Training Systems Development Lead and Leonides “Butch” O. Pilar, Makati ’s outstanding teacher for 2008.
The other finalists were Jean Karl Gaverza of Colegio San Agustin who was sponsored by RC Makati Legaspi of Cluster 8, Karenina Angelica D. Andrada of Makati High School (Cluster 2), Janice L. Belmonte of Signal Village National High School (RC Rizal West, Cluster 14) and Patrick Zaldevar of Baclaran High School (RC Parañaque North, Cluster 10).
Anika will represent the District in the National Oratorical Contest, being organized by RC Makati Rockwell under Pres. Malou Costello, to be held on March 7 at the Insular Life Auditorium, Ayala Avenue, Makati. |
