"New leaders mean renewed strength, high spirits, and fresh perspectives to advance the same mission of humanitarian service anchored on fellowship and friendship."

A MESSAGE OF THANKS FROM DG ATO MAGADIA

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

The Rotary International is probably the only humanitarian service organization of its size in the world where there is a mandated change of leaders from the RI President, to the 530 District Governors, and down to some 32,000 Club Presidents. These leaders are elected three years ahead, which is indicative of RI's emphasis on the value of preparation and training.

New leaders mean renewed strength, high spirits, and fresh perspectives to advance the same mission of humanitarian service anchored on fellowship and friendship. Membership growth and development, effective service projects, support to the Rotary Foundation, promotion of the Rotary's public image, and the involvement of the Rotary family are continuing concerns. The continuous development of the character and strength of each club is paramount for the long-term health and well being Rotary.  In a way, Rotary service is like a marathon relay race without a finish line. The goal is to grow from strength to strength and build on the gains made by past Club Presidents.  Each year the President Elect leads his club to a higher level of achievement.

In our District, the all day District Assembly last Saturday, May 3 signals the beginning of the leadership transition process to DGE Ed Limon and his team of Presidents Elect and incoming District Officers. During the District Assembly or DISTAS, DGE Boyet announced his program of governance and goals for RY 2008-09 in line with RI theme of "Make dreams real."  He also revealed RIPE DK Lee's challenge to all Rotarians - To make dreams real by giving children hope and a chance at a better future; giving children the chance at health by improving their environment and their access to health care and by making sure that more children have a chance to go to school. Hence, the theme "MAKING DREAMS REAL, Our children - Our future" more meaningful.

Let us all share this dream together as we embark on another year of sharing service with the real dream team. Congratulations to DGE Ed Limon and his dream team for putting together a successful and well attended DISTAS.

Yours in Rotary Service,

DG Renato "Ato" Magadia
