RCP Metro South Donates Desks and Chairs to SPED Class

The Rotary Club of Parañaque Metro South (RCPMS) turned over its donation of 25 sets of desks and chairs to the Special Education (SPED) class at Fourth Estate Elementary School in Brgy. San Antonio, Parañaque City last September 5, 2008.

Led by Real Good President Pol Casale, the simple turnover ceremony marked another milestone to the clubs’ program of providing school amenities to PWD (Persons with Disabilities) students.   Aimed to highlight the importance of education to PWDs, it became RCPMS’ advocacy to organize such missions at Parañaque’s public schools, as part of RCPMS’ literacy outreach projects.

The SPED class at Fourth Estate school severely lacks educational equipment and materials that are needed to improve their intellectual capabilities, help them assimilate with mainstream society and get equal opportunities to eventually become productive citizens of our country.

“You will pity them kung nakita mo sila noon na kulang-kulang ang gamit (had you seen them before with insufficient facilities). They try their very best to learn by going to school.  So, I think its about time we make them feel that there are kind-hearted people, such as Rotarians from RC Parañaque Metro South, who are willing to share their time and resources, and lend helping hands to help our less fortunate children realize their dreams of obtaining proper education.” RGP Pol said.

During the turnover, one can feel the excitement filling the air as the SPED students tried their desks and seats for the first time.  The faint smiles on their faces may not be too obvious, but one can surely "see" the overwhelming happiness in their hearts.  The experience for the Rotarians is just amazing.

The officers and staff of Fourth Estate Elementary School gratefully expressed their appreciation to RCPMS for the “wonderful gift ” not only to the SPED children, but to the school in general.  Not realizing, perhaps, that they have actually given the Rotarians another reason to "get high" and FEEL REAL GOOD!
