By Pres Roh Sarra, RC Puerto Princesa

Fifty four malnourished children from Barangay Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa City became the recipients of the Feeding Project organized by the Rotary Club of Puerto Princesa (RCPP) as the club’s response to RI’s Child Mortality Reduction and Nutrition Literacy campaign programs.

The project consists of a three-month feeding program for the children and lectures on nutrition and child care, such as “Pabasa Sa Nutrisyon” and Parent Effectiveness Seminar, for the mothers.  Vitamin supplements are also being provided.

The project was launched last July 16, 2008 at the Day Care Center, Hunda Bay in Bgy. Sta. Lourdes and was attended by RCPP Rotarians and their spouses.  Headed by Community Service Committee Chair, Rtn Suet Zabanal and Rtn. Polly David,  the program is being implemented with the participation of the Puerto Princesa City Nutrition Office and Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and funded from the proceeds of RCPP’s fund-raising activities.

The project's objective is not only to address the children’s nutritional needs, but also to increase awareness and provide guidance to parents on proper nutrition using simple inexpensive foods, and empower them to be more effective in child care.
