With the successful launching on October 7, 2008 of the Rotary Club of Makati North’s (RCMN) Reading Corner project at the Singkamas Barangay Hall in Makati City, club members, together with the Rotaract Club of Barangay Sta. Cruz, conducted their first weekly storytelling (by book reading) program for more than 30 children on November 15, 2008, at the same venue.

The project, dubbed “Sa Pagbasa, May Pag-asa,” is being implemented by RCMN jointly with the Inner Wheel Club of Makati North under their respective Literacy and Education programs.

In a brief ceremony, which started at 4:30 PM, guests were introduction by RCC Brgy. Singkamas President, Mrs. Tameng Pacibe, while Pres. Klink Ang gave an overview of the RCMN Reading Corner project, as well as the line up of activities for the afternoon.

The storytelling began with Director Christophe Bellinger, Rotary Ann Tess Rayos del Sol, RAC Pres. Michelle Anne Rafols and RAC Member Maricar Bermillo serving as storytellers.  They read short English and Tagalog stories chosen by the children themselves.  For entertainment, RAC Member Princess Lasic sang with the children while RAC Member Ma. Theresa Novicio distributed prizes to them.

Also present at the activity were Rtn. Danny Rayos del Sol with daughter Belay, Kagawad Edna Argones, RCC Brgy. Sta Cruz President Ida Rafols, Betty Centeno, Moly and Cris.  The book reading activity was concluded with snacks shared among all participants.
