RC Puerto Princesa Breaks Ground for Library Hub

With the conviction that “a child who reads, succeeds.”  the Rotary Club of Puerto Princesa (RCPP) led the groundbreaking ceremonies for the club-sponsored construction of a Library Hub last Dec. 1, 2008 for the benefit of the public school students of Puerto Princesa.

The Library Hub is a facility where books are sorted by grade/year level and subject/theme.  They are then bundled in plastic bins and stored in steel shelves.  The bundled books are lent in bulk to schools who, in turn, will lend them individually to students for a 25-day period.  This conveniently provides students from library-deficient schools immediate access to reading materials.

Conceptualized by the Department of Education to help address the lack of library facilities and materials in public elementary and secondary schools, RCPP adopted the construction project at the site provided by the Puerto Princesa City Government.

The construction cost of the 324 square meter facility is Three Million Pesos, which can only be completed through the financial contributions from private and public entities.  Hence, the RCPP calls on its generous brethren to contribute towards the completion of the project and to invest in the intellectual development of our children in Palawan.
