The Rotary Club of Parañaque Metro South (RCPMS) turned over a library donation to the Sampaloc II Elementary School (SES) in Bgy. BF Homes, Parañaque City, last Jan. 28, 2009.  It is the 8th library set-up donation of the club under its continuing “Tanglaw ng Kabataan, Karunungan ay Yaman” literacy and education programs for public school students.

The simple turn-over ceremony was witnessed by Rotary Club of Makati Past President Johnny Carlos, who is representing the Rotary Club of Makati Foundation, RCPMS' major partner on the project.  Also present were Bgy. BF Homes Chairman Jeremy Marquez, Parañaque Vice-Mayor Gus Tambunting, the SES teachers, students and parents.

According to RCPMS President Pol Casale, it's part of the club's advocacy to build libraries because they believes that education is the best tool to ensure better future for the youth.  Gaining knowledge through reading will help them better understand issues that affect them and be able to respond positively.  Knowledge will prepare to them to face challenges, become more competitive and productive members of society.

“I hope that through our library, students of SES will be motivated to read and explore as well as to learn how to operate computer,” Pres. Pol said, as he thanked RCPMS member, Larry Bonsol, who donated a set of personal computer for SES.  He also thanked other members who gave Bibles, reference books, encyclopedia, journals and other reading materials.

“You see, we do not just build libraries.  We equip them with sufficient materials and tools to support the educational needs of the students and encourage them to make reading a habit,” Pres. Pol continued.

Bgy. Chairman Marquez, for his part, expressed his gratefulness and thanked the Rotarians for the big help they gave to his barangay.

The building of the SES library started in September last year with the special help of RCPMS past presidents Jac Cabatuando and Dante Hernandez, and generous financial assistance from RC Makati.

RCPMS intends to help other schools with no libraries, not only in Parañaque, but in other areas as well.
