RC Makati North, led by Pres. Klink Ang; RC Taguig West, led by Pres. Alice A. Lucas; and RC Taguig South, led by IPP Marite Garido (on behalf of Pres. Mariz Montalvo, who was unavailable) held a joint luncheon meeting at The Manila Peninsula last April 15, 2009. At the top of the agenda is the on-going Save Laguna Lake - Taguig Watershed (SSL-TMW) project.
Pres. Klink appraised everyone on the status of the SSL-TMW project, which covers the establishment of bamboo nurseries and the planting of bamboos along a 7-kilometer shoreline of Laguna Lake. The SSL-TMW is a joint project of 19 clubs from District 3830 where each has an adopted Rotary Community Corps (RCC) who were made responsible for the management of the bamboo nurseries as a livelihood project. Pres Klink, also offered the services of Manila Times, his mother company, for the publication of articles that may help create awareness on the project, to Pres. Alice A. Lucas, who's acting as the project coordinator.
Mayor Freddie Tinga of Taguig City, the project's main LGU partner, was the joint meeting's guest speaker. He delivered a very inspiring report, which gave everyone an appreciation on the positive achievements and continuing progress of the "Forward Taguig" program that Mayor Tinga is aggressively espousing. These include the provision of easy and quick access to emergency services of Taguig in cases of accidents and making available special privileges to the people of Taguig. Relevant and regularly updated geographical and demographical facts and figures on Taguig are now available from the city government's website.
And because it was the Mayor's birthday, the Rotarian's gifted him with a cake and sung the birthday song while he blows the candles. It was the Rotarians' simple, yet meaningful, expression of their appreciation to Mayor Tinga's all out support to the SSL-TMW and other Rotary projects in Taguig. |
