Bio-Sand Filter Project
In response to Rotary International's thrust in providing safe drinking water, the Bio-Sand Filter Project directly addresses the lack of access to clean water at various beneficiary sites in Palawan where significant portions of their population live below the poverty line with limited access to local health services. The Bio-Sand Filter is a simple low-cost water filtration and treatment contraption that will provide potable water to those who need it most. Increasing access to safe water decreases the incidence of water-related diseases like diarrhea, cholera, skin irritation and malnutrition
RCPP is in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Burnsville of RI District 5950 in Minnesota, USA, as it's matching grant partner, while the project’s implementor is the non-governmental organization, A Single Drop of Safe Water (ASDSW), and supported by the Palawan NGO Network. The year-long implementation consists of capacity building and livelihood components in three target areas. It includes a 5-week training program for the participants on how to build and install bio-sand water filters in schools, health units, day care centers and other public venues. The participants will be organized as a Rotary Community Corps (RCC) to ensure the project's long-term sustainability. |
