Representing as the culminating milestone of the district-wide project, Save Laguna Lake – Taguig Micro Watershed, a donation of 3,000 bamboo propagules was turned over by the participating District 3830 Rotary Clubs to the project's implementing partners in Taguig City last May 27, 2009.
Despite the rains and very early 6:30 AM schedule, many came to witness the simple but eventful turnover and planting ceremonies, aptly dubbed "Bamboo Tree Giving and Planting" by the welcoming LGU officials. Everyone was excited to see the project's main objective of planting bamboos along the Taguig shorelines of Laguna Lake to help arrest soil erosion, come to final fruition.
The city officials were led by Taguig City First Lady Kaye Tinga, Vice-Mayor George Elias, Councilor Gigi De Mesa and Councilor Rica Tinga of the Tree Huggers Club, who promised to maintain the transplanted bamboos and oversee their continuous survival. Other local officials from the barangay level were also present.
Some of the represented clubs, with their Interacts in tow, were RC Makati Legaspi (Dir. Juju Abdubacar), RC Taguig West (Pres. Alice Lucas), RC Taguig South (Pres. Marise Montalvo) and RC Makati Bel-Air (PE Roland Zurbano). D3830 RCC Chair Harold Dacumos delivered a message in behalf of Gov. Boyet Limon, while Councilor Gigi De Mesa formally acknowledged the Rotarians' donation of the bamboo propagules.
It was a satisfying relief for the Real Good Presidents who were looking forward to complete the project before their term ends. Their consolidated and tireless efforts made many dreams real. |
