September 8, 2008, Makati City
By PP Rose Acoba, RC Makati Legazpi

Last August 27, 2008 was a special day at Tuloy sa Don Bosco Streetchildren Village (Tuloy).  The Governor’s Day - Alay sa Kabataan was held at the Tuloy’s facilities in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.  It was D3830’s contribution to the children of Tuloy, whose lives are being transformed for the better.  Present were Governor Boyet Limon, D3830 Rotarians, generous donors and friends.

Spearheaded by PP Cory Quirino and the Rotary Club of Makati Legaspi for several years now, the D3830 Governor’s Day - Alay sa Kabataan project has become an annual District-endorsed fundraising activity.  This year, 36 clubs from the District co-hosted the event, a testament of D3830 Rotarians’ commitment to help save the street children and give them better chances in leading more meaningful lives.

Under the stewardship of Fr. Rocky Evangelista, himself a Rotarian, Tuloy sa Don Bosco has been a safe haven for street children for many years.  According to Fr. Rocky, his wards are given the chance to gain back their lives by restoring their dignity, self-confidence and self-respect.  From an uncertain and future-less street living, the children’s transformation is truly remarkable.  Tuloy’s programs of care, guidance and support are clearly manifested on their glowing happy faces.  The Tuloy children are destined to become true productive members of our society.

In his letter of thanks to Rotarians, Fr. Rocky said:

"Over the years, Tuloy and Rotary have held hands together to create a world of love for marginalized children.  We have built the appropriate infrastructure, and implemented comprehensive programs to address the enormous challenges posed by the overwhelming number of children roaming the streets in Luzon alone.  These enormous tasks are far from done.  We have to continue taking concerted efforts, pooling resources and funds to manage this menace still besetting our country, particularly during these turbulent times. We need to continue giving street children, who have spent years living and toiling in the streets, a chance to build better lives... and become contributing members of future generations.

"By itself, your interests in Tuloy Foundation as expressed in yesterday's gathering give us hope and inspiration.  Let us Walk our Talk... continue doing good to feel really good this Rotary year and beyond!!!"
