Nineteen Rotary Clubs from Taguig, Rizal and Makati jointly held the Taguig Area Literacy Day Community Service project at the covered court of North Daang Hari, Brgy. Bagong Tanyag, Bicutan, Taguig City last September 6, 2008. The program covered feeding, free medical check up and lectures on dental care, breastfeeding and nutrition to about 500 beneficiaries. This event was held simultaneously with a similar activity conducted by Parañaque and Las Piñas clubs at Barangay Tramo 1 in Parañaque City, where both are in celebration of the Rotary International Literacy Day. |
The activity, which started at 8:00 AM was highlighted by the feeding of almost 350 children with nutritious lugao (rice poridge) with egg, burger and fruit juice. Dr. Lala Aguinaldo and Dr. Mauin, both from Taguig South, and Dr. Leny Carillo of Rizal West, made themselves available for free consultations of selected patients where medicines for flu, fever, colds, and vitamins, were given at the same time.
Dr. Thony Pobre of RC Makati Bonifacio conducted de-worming of children while Dr. Malou Maligaya, together with eight dentists from Makati EDSA and Dr. Julie Ann Dionisio of Makati Legaspi presented proper dental care and distributed free toothbrushes and toothpastes. Dr. Aimee Sotto, an obstetrician-gynecologist, discussed various topics on pregnancy care and the importance of breastfeeding. PP Rose Acoba of Makati Legaspi conducted an audio-visual presented Malungay Nutrition Awareness to highlight its value for everyday nutrition. Ramon Veluz, District Coordinating Chair for Community Service and Jorge Caparas, District Chair for Literacy, Community Service and Resource group were also present.
Also present to support the activity were the Brgy. Bagong Tanyag officials, officers and members of the Scout Royal Brotherhood, and the very active Rotaract and Interact members of various clubs who ensured the highly systematic and orderly conduct of the day’s program.
People stayed long until the arrival of the District Governor Boyet Limon and gave him a warm welcome. DG Boyet delivered a message, which inspired the beneficiaries who asked when will the next one be.
With everyone’s help, the Rotarians of District 3830, once again, “made dreams real” for many of our less fortunate members of the community. |
